UMBC is conveniently located right off of Interstate 95 and just a five minute drive to BWI. You have several choices in terms of transportation.
Faculty who live in Baltimore have the option of taking the UMBC shuttle back and forth to campus.
Faculty who live in the DC region often take the Marc train to the BWI train station and then catch the shuttle to campus. And, of course, there is ample parking for those of us who would prefer to drive. Below is some information on all of these options.
As a full-time staff or faculty member at UMBC you can request a sticker that will enable you to free services on MTA buses, the Light Rail and the subway. These stickers are available at the Parking Services Office, Monday to Friday from 8 am to 4 pm. Bring your Campus ID so that they can verify your eligibility.
Please visit the Parking Services website for any additional questions you might have.
Parking Permits
All faculty and staff are required to have a valid permit to park on campus. Click here for a map of parking areas at UMBC. New full-time faculty and staff can ask their departments to provide them with a free temporary parking permit that lasts two weeks. If you are interested in receiving a permanent permit then you must complete a Payroll Deduction Form before the two week parking permit expires. When you are using your temporary parking permit we encourage you to bring your campus ID with you. Click here for more information on parking permits.
EV Charging Stations
UMBC has ten charging stations in the Walker Avenue Garage and seven in Lot 9. We also have two vehicle charging stations in the Stadium Parking Lot. These stations are free to all UMBC community members who have an electric vehicle and a permit (Daily, Annual or Hourly). We ask that you limit your charging time to four hours.
UMBC Transit

Sustainability
At UMBC sustainability is more than just “going green.” For us, sustainability is about considering the complexity and integration of natural, human, and social systems that maintain our thriving world.
Keeping this in focus, UMBC’s Office of Sustainability is actively involved in sustainability initiatives which are interdisciplinary and involve collaboration across the institution, locally, and nationally – including a commitment to carbon neutrality by 2050. We serve as a resource to the campus to empower every member of the community to investigate, experience, and share in our sustainability journey. Join us and follow along as we continually act as catalysts to envision sustainable solutions, actions, and opportunities for students, faculty, staff, and the local Baltimore region. Every action matters, so we welcome you to help create and maintain a healthy and just environment for all, today and into the future.
